Making Music Herstory: Musician Profile, Paris Strother

Los Angeles CA, USA, May 11, 2009 -

Making Music Herstory has some very talented musicians and songwriters collaborating on this project. This week’s profile is on an incredible musician and songwriter, Paris Strother. She is an extremely talented pianist, songwriter, arranger, and composer that we are proud to have on the project and are excited to be working with. “Paris always brings me back to the music. It is such a thrill to hear her play, to hear her songs. The music is what this whole project is about so I’m so happy to have so many talented women in music,” comments Executive Producer Lisa Chamblee-Hampton.

By the age of 13, Paris began to play professionally around Minneapolis for such events as mayoral inaugurations and fundraisers, and soon graduated to playing the most renowned jazz clubs in the Twin Cities by age 15. By the time she finished high school, Paris had already performed with some of the Twin Cities’ best performers and musicians. She then took the most practical step towards turning her passion into a career; she decided to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music.

Berklee proved to be a challenge for Paris, but a challenge she welcomed. The encouraging yet intimidating climate pushed her to better her craft, and by the end of her second year had graced every stage, big and small, at Berklee. She easily adapted to the different styles that all of these opportunities called for, ultimately transforming her into a talented artist in many different genres.

In May of 2008 Paris graduated with Bachelor's degree in Contemporary Writing and Production, and continued her education by working in production and development for the historic Monterey Jazz Festival, and as the Special Programs Coordinator for the Thelonious Monk Institute. She now lives in Los Angeles, California, and is working as a performing artist, songwriter, and teacher. Paris has developed into a “noteworthy talent”, Keep an eye on her! www.parisstrother.com

Los Angeles CA, USA, April 10, 2009 -

Lisa Chamblee-Hampton had a great time meeting several incredible artists this week. Some of those ladies are Audra Hardt, Mylin, Stefani Scovolo, and pop rock band Ladysugar. “Audra is magnetic and we laughed a lot through our conversation,” says Lisa. “Mylin’s talent and experience shines through and I love Stefani’s pop interpretation. I saw Ladysugar live at the House of Blues and they were extremely impressive! My husband Dave Hampton and I really enjoyed their music and performance- I’ve got a Ladysugar sweet tooth!”

Chamblee-Hampton also spoke with Audio Engineer Lenise Bent who told her about the Women In Music singer-songwriter event that happens once a month at the Mbar in Hollywood. Everyone is very excited to start work on the album.

Making Music Herstory Has Great Industry Response

Los Angeles CA, USA, April 2, 2009 -

After putting out an open call for female singers, songwriters, producers, engineers, and musicians, the response for the Making Music Herstory project has been empowering! The invitation, which was extended in March 2009 (coinciding with National Women’s History Month) netted hundreds of responses inclusive of independent and major label artists.

“The women who are doing music today, and reaching out to us are very professional- they all have websites, music available to listen to, and a great positivity about their careers,” says Executive Producer Lisa Chamblee-Hampton.

This dual-content project is a contemporary music compilation album and documentary film made entirely by women. Making Music Herstory (MMH) consists of music that is fueled by female energy and captures that on film to present the world with positive images of women in entertainment. The album presents new original songs that are written, performed, recorded and produced by women.
